7 March 2016

Dear Family,

It's been a smoky week. Dry season is here in Trinidad, and there are literally more fires than are in California. Probably because people burn their trash, the weeds (a la President Monson style; not even joking), and anything else they don't need anymore. The other day we counted five separate fires.

Other than that it's been a normal week. Transfer calls were on Saturday. Sister Tilby is going home, of course, pretty sad about that. My new companion is Sister Garcia! She's coming down from my old area in Curepe. She's from Mexico, my first non-American companion. If you look on the mission newsletter I sent you, she's in the group picture they took of the North Zone's Conference. She's the Mexican one in the front with the long skirt. I've heard she's a very good cook, so I'll have to work on my exercising a bit more . . . We will be changing on Wednesday, so I'll have more news next week.

I hope all is well in the Golden State! I love you all and pray for you.

Love, Sister Aida Tibbitts

P.S. Wait, wait, wait, funny story.
So, our recent converts Keith and Kelvin have a step-mother/neighbor who they call "the devil", AKA Girlie. She's just an old, slightly senile old woman who yells a lot and threatens to chop off Kelvin's hands when he mouths at her. She had no interest in the gospel or listening to us before; she's Catholic. One night when we visited the brothers, she came out and said, "I want to hear what all yuh are REALLY teaching them." So, because she's a little contentious and "ignorant" (her word), we just tried to testify about Jesus Christ with her. Didn't work as we hoped because she just steamplowed right through and talked over us (I guess Keith had to have learned it from someone), but at the end she said the closing prayer and was actually nice to us. Last night, we were teaching Kelvin, and she started yelling at him from across the yard. Sister Tilby said, "Hi Girlie!" and her voice just changed. "Oh, I didn't know it was you! Good night!" Haha, we got her good.

So, a little miracle.
